About the product
- The gold standard of oral care
- Available in malt, a taste that is highly accepted by pets
Why use it?
- A more dedicated but very effective way to maintain pets’ oral health
With its patented Xpersiv™ technology, Plaqtiv+ captures minerals,
inhibiting biofilm maturation and thus formation of calculus.
Without oral care, plaque biofilm and calcified tartar form
Xpersiv™ technology binds minerals, making them unavailable to form tartar
Without minerals, maturation of the biofilm is impaired
Weakened tartar softens and begins to break off
In a randomised controlled study of 32 dogs:1
Plaqtiv+ water additive delivered a 21% reduction in calculus at 12 weeks vs control (p=0.05).1
In a randomised controlled study of 18 dogs:2
- There was no evidence of adverse events related to consumption of Plaqtiv+ water additive.2
- The safety of Plaqtiv+ water additive was demonstrated at up to 5 times the recommended dose for 30 consecutive days.2
Home oral care can be started as soon as pets develop permanent teeth.3
Starting home oral care early in a pet’s life can help make acceptance easier,4
but even for older pets, it’s never too late to start a dental care routine.
- The ideal time to start a dental care routine is when pets are still young.
- Start with spray, then wipes, then toothpaste. If owners don’t manage to progress all the way to toothpaste, they can combine with the water additive for maximum effect
- Dental chews and food only involve premolar and molar teeth, not canines and incisors.
- Spray or wipes can be used to address the front teeth that chews and/or food don’t reach.
- Toothbrushing decreases plaque by 37% if done daily, 25% if done every other day, and 10% if done weekly.5
- Occasional toothbrushing can be combined with the water additive, to increase efficacy without increasing effort.
- The water additive can be used at least 1 month before the procedure to soften calculus.
- After the procedure, when brushing is not possible, the water additive can be a good alternative.
